“I like the building process,” says Jim Lovell, founder of The Lovell Group. “I truly enjoy being a contractor.”
Lovell grew up in the construction business. His father ran a land development business, and his grandfather owned a small chain of lumberyards throughout Oklahoma. In rural America, both of these professions included the building of homes, offices and commercial buildings.
After completing his B.S. at Oklahoma State University, Lovell spent two years in the military as a first lieutenant. He is a graduate of the Builders Institute and the Lee Evans Institute. He started his own construction business in 1972 and built homes, offices, restaurants and commercial buildings in northern Oklahoma. In 1990, Lovell and his wife, Kay, moved their family to Vail where Jim worked for Beck and Associates, Inc., a general contractor specializing in custom residential single family homes. After moving the family to the Denver area in 1993, Lovell teamed up with Gary Carlson and they founded Trillium Homes in 1995.
Lovell realized that at some point his position had become more management and less of a builder. He missed the connection with the actual building process. In 2009, Lovell purchased Carlson's interest in Trillium Homes and renamed the company to The Lovell Group, Inc.
“My cell is on 24/7 and my clients have full access,” says Lovell of his business now. “I love being the front man and being involved daily on the job site.”
